A Pawsome Interview

In the light of the current situation of stray animals in the Philippines, Isang Daan reached out organizations and centers that are in-need of support.

It comes with immense gratitude that we managed to get a response from Strays Worth Saving (SWS) and have an interview with them; however, the interviewee requested their name to stay anonymous.

SWS is a non-profit organization that aims to rescue and rehabilitate stray animals that have been abused, neglected, or left alone on the streets and place them up for adoption after treatment.

Q1: How does your non-profit organization aim to help stray animals?

Mainly by getting them off the streets and having them adopted into good and able families. Those in pain, sick, and have medical issues will be brought to the vet, treated, rehabilitated, then put up for adoption. We do stringent screening of adopters to ensure their good future.

Q2: Why did your organization decide to help strays?

As its founder, my reason for creating SWS is to allow for more rescues. I started this out as a personal purpose in life. I wanted to rescue a needy stray, rehabilitate it, then put up for adoption. However, when you start doing it, you realize that there are simply too many of them needing rescue badly. So I created the page to allow more people to help, thus also enabling us to rescue more.

Q3: Why did your organization decide to help strays?

There are many things that can be done like raising funds through events, posting for donations, soliciting from organizations, all to create funds. However, an organization can only do this if it has established trust among its followers. So to be able to achieve our goal, we need also to provide followers with information such as the rescues made, the before and after photos of rescues, the targets achieved, etc. This way, we will earn the trust of people.

Now, it is our time to do our part.

If you encounter a stray, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (n.d.) urges you to act immediately besides just taking a picture and sending it to an organization. You may gather information about the area, ask around if the stray has an owner, for even coordinate on how get the stray into a safer place as soon as possible.

On the other hand, if you are worried about not being able to move much due to the pandemic, Isang Daan has found a way. You can extend your help through monetary or food donations - you can find the specific details here. The donations accumulated would be donated to Strays Worth Saving and Animal Wonders.

P.S. Do not feel limited to just donate to these organizations; you can even help out your local veterinary clinics. A small act of kindness can surely go a long way!
